By 2050, oceans will contain more plastic than fish. This prediction alone was so alarming to the creators of Hibar, that it inspired them to take action to help eliminate the single use of plastic in the bathroom. Thus, Hibar was born. This clever shampoo and conditioner line does it’s part in being eco-friendly by helping to get rid of plastic via offering recyclable and compostable exterior packaging. While using a bar for your hair may seem foreign to many, it’s actually quite simple to use as each bar is shaped like a teardrop with an angled tip to make application of the product easy while in the shower. Founder Nora Schaper explains the inspiration behind the shape of the bar, “We spent a lot of time getting the shape right. We wanted it to be iconic, unmistakable, beautiful. We also wanted it to feel nice in the hand - the curves feel luxurious. And the top is bevelled so it feels gentle on your hair and scalp.”

The founders wanted their product to be of salon quality minus harmful ingredients such as sulfates, parabens, silicones and phthalates and their formulas are gentle enough to be used on colored or treated hair. Three varieties are offered to cover various hair types such as Maintain for removing product build-up, Volume to help vamp up fine, dull hair and Moisturize to give an added quenching boost to thick and dry hair. The size of each bar is designed to last as long as a standard 16 oz. bottle of shampoo or conditioner.

What’s next for HiBar? Schaper says, “We're excited about the future of HiBAR - and all the other companies that are tackling single-use plastic, for that matter. For us, we're working on new products all the time, to continue to build out our salon-quality line, but we will go wherever in the bathroom we think we can make a plastic-free difference with our attention to design and quality.”

Hibar can be purchased online.
